Shooting Stars Player Registration for the 2007-2008 season is now closed (Volunteer registration is still open). We will have a waiting list for potential players, but at this point we are at full capacity. Shooting Stars Basketball was created for children with disabilities to learn and enjoy the game of basketball. This inclusive program is designed for children with a variety of disabilities (including Autism, Downs Syndrome and other physical and mental disabilities).
Our mission, just as it is with the other San Marcos Youth Basketball divisions, is for kids to have fun and learn the fundamentals of the game of basketball in a recreational, non-competitive environment.
Games will be played on Sunday afternoons; time TBD. For the 2007-2008 season we are planning for an 8-week season starting Sunday, November 11 (no games 11/25, 12/23 or 12/30) and having our last game 1/20/07.
We will have a buddy system for this program in which a middle school or high school student/volunteer will be partnered with a child for the season. The buddy will support the child by working with him/her on the basic basketball skills (passing, shooting, dribbling, etc) and guide the child through the practices/games.
The volunteers, middle school and high school students, will earn credit toward their community service requirement for school.
